I've been offered an old 90's Corima carbon front tub wheel for a silly low sub-£50 price, and was thinking of getting it for my new track/fixedroad build.

It seems to be in pretty good nick - some slight delamination at a couple of small places, away from the braking surface. Spins true. No braking marks.

Have no photos, but after a google around I found this:

Which is from an advert on LFGSS for someone selling a 650c version - looks pretty much the same, except 700c of course, and the one I've been offered as stated doesn't have the yellow around the braking surface.

Never used tubs before so to be honest am a little hesitant - that and the specific brake pads I'll need are starting to make it look less of a bargain compared to a regular £100-150 new alloy track wheel.

Thinking of taking a punt as if I don't get on with it, I might be able to sell it on?

Thoughts?

Tubs are great for racing, they're a pain in the arse for everyday use. You could sell it on if you're sure you'll make a profit, but I wouldn't bet on it for a wheel that's over a decade old. You need to see what similar wheels are fetching on ebay.

Does it come with the tub (that you want) fitted? As if not, tubs ain't cheap. Plus glue, tape, brushes, protective tape...

OTH gluing tubs is something everyone should do at least once in their cycling career.

Wouldn't think it makes sense to have tub on front only though, so if you buy this, you're opening up a whole new can of worms for the rear

Doesn't come with tub, sorry if I didn't make that clear.

The lack of it being one of my not-really-that-cheap-after-all concerns!

Yikes - Gatorskin tubs = £50 each.

Brake pads for cabon rims = £similar?

Thinking it's not worth it  Why couldn't it have been a clincher!

RESSURRECTION!

Was offered it for too low a price to turn down, so I now have it!

Looking into tubs now. Owner runs Gatorskin tubs on Zipp 404s and hasn't had a puncture in over 1,000 miles - however, I have to admit I'm not keen on the look of them - the new bike is purely black and white and brownish sidewalls on the tyres does not appeal.

Does anyone else make puncture resistant tubs, and does anyone have any experience with them?
