I've got a pretty old set of Cantis which are in excellent condition except that I need new brake blocks for them.

When I say old I suspect around about 15-20 years old, maybe more. they take a post-type brake block.

Will modern post-type brake blocks fit?

Do higher priced brake blocks offer anything particularly special? No squeaking, faster braking, less rim wear, longer lasting?

What is your recommendation for a good value set of brake blocks (I won't spend more than £30 a pair, and I rather not be anywhere near that)?

I got cheap canti blocks from lidl and they didn't fit. I needed threaded ones and the ones I bought weren't. I then landed up with this. Slightly longer than the ones I had but they came with a spare set of pads. I like the rigidity of a metal case rather than all-in-one pads. If the post on yours does not have threads then there are many v-brake pads available. Take your pad off take it to a bike shop and get the nearest match!

Older cantis (at least the ones I am familiar with:tired: use the non-threaded posts. I've used Koolstop Eagle II Dual compound pads on mine and they are thoroughly excellent in all the respects you mention above. If on a budget the disco brakes ones are not at all bad but wear out quicker than Koolstops. £/mile they probably come out better though.

I do use Koolstops and find them excellent with Shimano cantis, but bought some of these from a French bike shop and found them even better with Avids:

Would like to know if anyone else has tried them and if I could get some for Shimano stoppers.
