Can you still get these? Does anybody here still have one? I'm doing up an old Raleigh 20 shopper and I think one of thoe would look just fab on it.

How much does it cost to Oldham?
This is a bit much but how's about an old motorbike shop type thingy?

Our kid had a speedo on his 'Iron Horse' road bike in about 1983. Did myself some damage seeing how fast i could go on that one i'll tell thee...... it was about 6 inches too big for me for a start..... and it had really poor brakes

I googled analog bike speedos and found that they are still available. My swmbo hasn't shown me how to do links yet so I'll tell you that they arfen't the ones I had in the 80s. These ones I rthink are American and look a bit more cool and as such not quite the completely kitch look that I'm after. It sounds like you might have had the sort I had. It was a bit squarish and bloody huge by todays standard of handlebar accessories. Great fun though at the time.

Analogue speedometers (the ones that worked like a dynamo) went out with the art; these were around in the days of the Raleigh Chopper (1970s).

Out with the art should be. Just in case anyone is wondering these has a cable with an outer and inner wire that attached to the main unit (on the handlebars) and ran to a "mechanical spinning device" - magnets hadn't been invented :-) attached to the tyre. When the wheel turn the inner wire revolved and overcame a spring resistance in the main unit to drive the needle and indicate the speed. They gave you the speed and the distance down to a tenth of a mile - and that was it. No fancy cadence, heart-rate monitor or anything like that. You really don't want to go back to those - seriously.
