8 miles...

Had to get off and push the bike up some of the longer steepish hills, so my time of 57 mins maybe isn't tTHAT bad... C- ?

Fitted my toe clips and straps to try out, but my outside of right ankle and up is killing me - presume this is from having my foot unnaturally placed due to the straps? Sound about right?

Anyway... long way to go to get the weight shifted... but I suppose we all start somewhere!!!

My first ride was 7 miles and I had to get off and walk up all the hills!

The hills I didn't walk up were 'slight'...

I reckon i'll be sore tomorrow... need to get the practice in, I've signed up for a 20 mile 'fun ride' in 2 weeks... (mostly flat/downhill!)

Give it a month.....it gets easier and easier until you suddenly realise that you're knocking off 10 miles without breaking sweat.

Well Done !!!

First time I did about 8 miles I had to get off at very slight inclines in the road - just couldn't do it. When I got home my legs nearly went on strike going up the stairs to the bathroom. That was about a year ago. Ok, now I do regularly 25 - 30 miles on Sundays and another 20 miles total over the week. I get up a lot of hills without stopping, though some are still beyond me but I am trying ...

Anyway just goes to show, practice and perseverance is the way to go....

Good on ya, nice to know I'm not the only one going through this pain at the moment!

My issue is that I haven't yet had my cages/water bottles delivered, so I don't like venturing far.

I got my 1st road bike about a year ago, 8 miles was a struggle but now I commute just over 30 miles a week on a single speed and do 20-30 twice a week.

Keep going because it gets easier and ultimately more rewarding, every 'new longest ride' feels awesome.

8 miles is fab for a first ride out, I did five miles my first one. I still have yet to get beyond 25 miles, but spring is here, so who knows. And I still avoid hills, and walk up several!

It helped my weight loss too.
