When did I mention that?? That was ages ago. I had 3 interviews and lost interest eventually.

I lost interest because I could see they wanted me, but for some reason they weren't at the time aware of why.

I had interviews with 2 different departments and eventually told them I wasn't interested if just to save having to drive 30 miles for surreptitious interviews before work.

Ain't heard. Will ring tomorrow but I fear no news is bad news in this case. Shame, as I had a good feeling but then I'm out of practise at reading these things.

You're probably right. The usual drill is that the successful candidate gets a call the day after. Ah well, get the feedback if it's going and brace yourself for the next one. There's always the chance that there was either an internal candidate or someone with that little bit extra. No point being too despondent. Tell you what, I may even post you that Bangles cd.

PS - Baggy says there's always the chance that they have another candidate to interview who couldn't make the original date. That can put things back sometimes.

I believe they had someone the next day, so really I should've heard Monday this week.

In my experience, they either offer you the job there and then, or you don't get it. If you don't get it, they probably won't even let you know, either because they don't like giving bad news or they can't be bothered.

In teaching, it's quite common to have the candidates milling around waiting for the smoke to go up. Imagine the feelings of the unsuccessful candidates as the successful one is extracted from the corral of candidates.

One practice that seems to have died is being asked at the very beginning of the interview, 'If we were to offer you the job would you accept it?'

Turns out they haven't made a decision yet. Meeting today apparently. I left a message.

I was going to say as much. Sometimes you're desperate to offer but there are other considerations, e.g. budgetary or authorisation to appoint from higher up the chain who just happens to be on holiday. Sometimes, no news is good news.
