Hi all, I'm looking for some advice.

I'm looking for a cheap (very cheap by your standards probably) bike that will do for going on bike rides in the 6 months I'm not at uni. I will be travelling around 5 or so miles away, on dirt paths hills and some roads. I've only ever had mountain bikes (cheap kiddy ones with full suspension where you go up and down more than forwards). I reckon a rigid or maybe front suspension would be fine.

My budget is no more than £150. Obviously aluminium would be better than steel but that's a big ask at that price.
I did find a Diamondback M05 at Go Outdoors for 129 but they are out of stock. I tried it in Halfords and it seemed perfect for my needs. Aluminium, comfy seat. Only problem as that it was 219 I think. I nearly got them to price match, got to the tills and they realised it's out of stock at the local Go Outdoors so they wouldn't do it.

So, basically:

  • £150 budget
  • Mountain bike
  • Rigid or front suspension
  • will be used for days out every so often.
Any ideas? I have tried local bike shops as is always suggested but they sneer when I tell them how much I want to spend. I'm not after a commuting bike, anything more than 150 would be a waste.

Thanks.

Try Decathlon.
The 5.1 is a cracking bike for the money and will be difficult to beat new.

They also do a decent hybrid/city bike - but IMHO it's an ugly bloody thing

They also used to do a MTB based single speed for 80quid which I came soooo close to buying last year. Seems to have disappeared though....

That looks about right for my needs, but there is no store anywhere near Newcastle. They only have it in Small aswell(whatever frame that is).

It's slightly ugly but I don't really care. I am seriously considering this bike, plus they deliver to Newcastle. Thanks.
