Travelling out of York this afternoon (Sunday) I encountered many riders all with numbers...all coming towards me. In Strensall there were more...oh heck says I, it's the York 100. I am mightily embarrassed to confess I forgot all about it..

It's been a lovely sunny day, but with a rather nagging north-easterly wind which must have made things difficult.

Coming through Sherrif Hutton, a lady in bright pink cycling gear shouted "you're going t'wrong way"...and I smiled back wanly. To all you gallant riders who did this ride for charity today I doff my helmet. In addition I promise to register for, and take part in this event next year (unless of course it's raining).

WELL DONE EVERYONE  You're a credit to the sport.

I saw a few.

Out between Warthill and Gate Helmsley, I'd stopped behind a hedge for a comfort break when a car came past slowly, turned round further down the road and came back - by which time I was on my way again. He was taking the outward arrows down and as I passed said "oh! you're not in the event are you?" I assured him that I wasn't, and on he went....

Saw a few returnees as I came back - I think they'll have had the wind in their faces for the last few miles...

Was it 100 miles, or k? I only did 55 miles today, and the wind was annoying on the way back.

that was me!! my fist ride over 55 miles. me and dad stuck together and managed 6:45 for 108 miles & 2 stops. the wind was annoying but still managed 16.7mph average which we were both pleased with.

There were two rides - one 100m and one 100k. The shorter version was much hillier, so I guess the 100m would have worked out easier overall (unless you really like hills!). Chatted to a guy on Sunday in the Tap & Spile who had just finished. He had done the 'Ryedale Rumble' the week before and said that was harder, despite being shorter due to the climbs.

55 miles is a good ride in my view - it would certainly be enough in a wind (which I detest).

Oh hello again! liked the outfit. You did really well at a great average speed for that distance - I would struggle to do 100+ even with tailwind....arrrgh
