I'll have to take some time off the bike while I recover, I don't want to aggravate it.

On Sunday I was having a kick about with some friends when I went for a volley and I felt my hamstring as soon as I made contact with the ball. Painful but it's getting better.

Has anybody had a hamstring injury? How long is a sensible period off the bike? I don't want to rush it and make it worse.

I think it's safe to guess I'll miss the world cup

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Cant help you with your query, but hope your soon up and about again. Take things easy and hopefully you'll soon be back on you're bike.

Pulled a hamstring on a Friday playing Badminton, back playing the following Monday. Big mistake. About 4 or 5 years on, still get tightness in the said hamstring. Give it plenty of time to heal itself.
Having said all that, never feel it on the bike! ^_^

I'm the same. I have a shortened hamstring in my left leg, despite the best efforts of physios....I only ever feel it when I'm going up inclines, either walking or on the bike.

im a little tea pot
when you tear it so bad that it bruises and is 4 inches by 8 inches then stay away from everything that could agrivate it for 8 weeks minimum!!!

i had a slight tear playing footie, then did kung fu a few weeks later, did a horse kick and pretty much tore it in half! just take it easy and let it settle before doing anything! i wasnt cycling at the time byut definatly listen to your body, i went to the same guy that does physio for bath rugby and he gave me a rehab sheet which worked wonders but it was 8 weeks before i felt up to starting it (was mainly running though)

Once tore mine, which hurt like bloody hell and was a few weeks to heal.Do you stretch your hamstrings every time you finish off the bike? As cycling is known for shortening your hamstrings, i have got in to the habit of stretching them every time i remove my cycling shoes.

I had started in the last 5 weeks but never did it after cycling before. After running, every time.

Yesterday I tried to see how the leg felt and I'm not quite ready yet. I was very careful so no harm done. I will wait a few more days and see how I do on the flat.

20 miles of gentle ride done. No hills just yet but I'm pleased with my return.

It's interesting to read about how to treat a hamstring injury as I would have made it worse and perhaps many would have gone for the deepheat cream instead of ice.

Welcome back chap, I've given myself a patella issue running too many miles which has inadvertently stopped me from biking as well, tried again today after a week off but its just inflamed it again so I guess I'm off the bike for a couple of months, awesome, I think this will prob mean I'm not going to bother with running again all it does is give me injuries!

Hopefully I can get back to the bike when this thing heals (fingers crossed) but so annoying.

Yes, it is very frustrating. Hopefully with time and rest you can get back to cycling.

Good luck

I tore my hamstring and was very glad I went along to the local gym - the physio checked it properly and gave me a treatment plan of stretches and exercises. All for the price of a Marathon Winter.
