Last year, I purchased a pair of Wolber Profil wheels; I've noticed that each wheel has a single red spoke in exactly the same place - just two or three away from the valve.

The rest of the spokes are black, what is the purpose of the single red spokes ?

I would say purely aesthetic.

It's officially aesthetic with my American Classic's with it's single white spoke.

I know Fulcrum use a couple of "balance" spokes on some of their wheels. On the racing 5 wheelset the majority of spokes are black aero profile, but 2 on each wheel are round and silver. These are opposite the rim joint and supposedly serve to balance the weight of the pin/weld.

I had the previous version in black, with the odd spoke red. Like yours the odd spoke is next to the valve so does also serve some additional practical purpose. (I see yours also have the big 'VALVE' sticker next to the valve!)
