Normally I don't bother to comment on other road users, especially not cyclists seeing as the amount of cr@p we have to put up with from others. However...
There I am cycling down the ramp on the path to Russell Road in Edinburgh. Coming up the ramp is a cyclist, who judging by his kit is a regular commuter despite being a middle aged fat b*st*rd. Also on the path is a bloke & his dog going in my direction. The spaniel is about 10 yards in front of his owner. Both man & dog are walking on the very edge of the path on the right. The man keeping out of the way & the dog keeping his nose to the interesting stuff on the grass. Fatboy is making his way slowly up the ramp. He makes no effort to deviate his track & despite having 95% of the path to cycle in keeps hard left. At the last moment the dog manages to leap out of the way ( it was obviously intelligent & well trained enough to realize that when confronted by a cyclist it should keep to the side) By this time I am past the scene & heading downhill. But not before I can hear numpty boy hurling foul mouthed abuse at the dog owner for not keeping your f*ucking dog under control.
No wonder we get a bad press. While the dog wasn't on a lead it clearly was well behaved & not even slightly in the way. To me it looked like a deliberate attempt to run over the dog. I should have stopped & apologised to the dog owner to mitigate some of the damage done, but I was past & gone before I really thought about it. Untrained dogs can be a real nuisance on a cyclepath but this one so obviously wasn't. What was this idiot thinkiing of?
