Numpty front mech question

Hi just a quick question...may be a stupid one but hey I don't know so would appreciate any help.

I have an 8 speed sora system on my bike, would a 9 speed front mech work with an 8 speed system? Is there really that much different?

it's just got a slightly narrower cage.
so might be slightly more prone to rub the chain on smallest rear sprocket orlargest rear sprocket, but use largest chainring and smallest chainring, respectively, with these and it should be fine.

I'm currently running a 9-speed Tiagra front mech on an 8-speed triple set up (Sora shifters). Works fine.

i used to run a 10 speed on my older bike which was a seven speed that worked fine aswell

yep - i run 9 speed mech on 8 speed system and similarl on the back - all shifts fine.
