When I got my new road bike I had numb hands, even on fairly short rides, to begin with. I found that I was gripping the handlebars too tightly and I went for a bike fit because I felt too stretched out. The bike fit gave me narrower bars and a shorter stem. I relaxed my grip more and bought some gel gloves. Now the problem is fixed and I no longer get numb and tingling hands.

I hope this is some help.

+1 to what Effyb4 said. Gel gloves and relax your grip. Change your grip as you ride, from tops to hoods to drops.

I used to get numb hands until I changed to 'lizard skins DSP' bar tape. Way more padded and soaks up a lot of the vibration from the road, also experiment with bike set up as others have said to ensure you have optimal comfort.

ive got a boardman team carbon 2014 and the bars are standard at the moment but im sure to change them :cycle:
