So battling the Fibromyalgia and Arthritis to be able to ride, I'm hit with another thing today.

I've had a really sore arm for months, tried everything and it's not getting better (feels like a muscle tearing and now keeps me awake at night).
I went to the GP and he has diagnosed a problem with the tendon that joins the deltoid muscle in my upper arm.

it's not a common problem and he can't inject it as it will need a specialist to try that incase the tendon ruptures (great!) and a specialist won't even look at it until I've had physio.
The waiting list for that is 5 months.

So, I am going to pay for sports physio to treat me to see if it improves then at least I can say I've tried that route!
Never rains but it pours eh?

Physio on the NHS is almost impossible to get. I don't know why, I even work where we train physio's, there are NHS jobs but many go private as they can't get roles in the NHS. There just aren't enough.

A sports physio won't stop you riding, but they will identify the issue and treat it.

Indeed. My NHS physio appointment is 28/10! That's the closest I could get after crashing hard 4weeks ago...

you have my sympathies and lots of them. I know what it feels like but with a different range of 'illnesses' (severe asthmatic, partial secondary addison's, pituitary adenoma, parital paralysed down the left side of my body as a result of an accident at work 20 years ago which left me needing 11 operations on my left wrist to repair it to a semi-functioning condition. Long term steriod use has probably left me with bone denisty issues as well. I could go on, but it gets boring after a while :rolleyes::laugh:

I finally thought I was getting my health back together for this year after 5 months on steriods and more anitbiotics than I can remember when on Monday I slipped over whilst still 3/4's asleep and landed squarely on my ass... and now have a fractured coccyx to deal with! Ouch... I have injured it before, so knew instantly what had happened...

As for physio on the NHS, that seems to be hit & miss on where you are in the country, but here where I live now, +100 stitches & a severed major artery to a dog bite on my leg was not sufficient to get me physio on the NHS and we ended up paying for me to go privately until finances became too tight. I can now manage to walk 2km but that is the most I can do and will then have to stay off the leg and rest it for the remainder of the day... I used to routinely walk 30-45km (20-30 miles) in a day with a rucksack so the loss of 'freedom' from my point of view is collosal.

Ouch!!
I was like you - fit and healthy, cycled 15-25 miles a week (MTB) for my leisure activity, walked everywhere and just generally loved being outdoors.
Life's a bitch - but there's no way I will lie down to the mistress <g>

What sort of injection is he proposing? Presumably a steroid if there is a risk of rupture. Ask the specialist about platelet rich plasma. Not sure if it's offered on the NHS and expensive if private. Flipping hurts though if injected directly into a tendon!!

I ended up having to go private for my physio, my horse managed to dislocate my shoulder I managed to get it back in and popped to the doctors the next day as I was still in agony he said he could refer me as urgent to physio at the hospital but their idea of urgent would be 6-8 weeks!! luckily private physio wasn't as expensive as I thought and they saw me the day after I phoned them!
