Hi!
I'm a complete novice and have just bought a road bike (probike XRC 2.0 2011) and it's tyres need replacing.
I don't know where to buy them from or whether to get a 28c or 32c??
This is all jargon to me at the mo - anyone shed any light?
Thanks!

If you read the side of your tyres, they will give you the tyre size. However, from a quick google, I'd say you probably have 700x23c fitted. You may not have clearance for 28 or 32c. 25c will be comfortable and almost definitely fit. If in doubt, just take it in to your local bike shop.

If you need new tyres 25mm wide ones should be fine. I use Vitorria Rubino Pro tyres which aren't expensive (about £16 a tyre) and are pretty robust. You can google the brand and see which online retailer is doing a deal on any particular day

Another +1 for Vittoria Rubinos (Basic, not pro), cheap, last ages, and give decent enough puncture protection.

And the puncture protection is a MAJOR factor , well it is for me anyway!
I have got the Rubino Zaffiros and have done about 1000 road mile on them and had one puncture so far . A lot of people really don't rate the Zaffiros at all , not sure if I do , I may just have been lucky.......

My winter bike has Michelin Lithion 2's 25mm which have been very good and comfy too, they are sometimes on offer for £25 for 2x tyres & 2x tubes, the reviews I read prior to buying them were very positive too.

+1 - look at decathlon for a price on pairs, they usually have twin packs for £18 and IME don't cut up like the cheaper Vittoria tyres

Also worth a look if your interested in how they compare to higher spec or more expensive tyres: http://www.bicyclerollingresistance.com/road-bike-reviews?min=9&minpr=8&maxweight=399

Zaffiros were standard fit on my road bike and I really couldn't fault them. Did well over 1,000 miles on them with no problems or visits from the p*nct*r* fairy and only changed them as the rear had started to cut up, probably due to the terrible road surfaces around here.

Replaced with Continental Ultra Gatorskins as they were on offer and I've been equally pleased with them.

Funnily enough I am thinking about Gatorskins next but may be a bit pricey for me.....

I got the Halfords 3 year service scheme when I bought the bike that includes free fitting on anything purchased . I should have taken advantage of this bargain Northern Dave ! I will keep an eye open for them on sale in future although I am hoping to get a few hundred miles more out of my Zaffiros
