Noticed today my tyres are cracking up

Noticed today my tyres which are less than six months old (I have done a lot of miles on them) are starting to crack on the rim. Small hair line cracks is this a defective tyre. Or something I am doing wrong

do you run them at proper pressures?

I noticed little cracks next to the rim on the tyres of my Trek - I put that down to them being rubbish tyres but I'm no expert. I'm presuming the main strength of the tyre is underneath the surface rubber so I haven't bothered replacing them.

Schwalbe Marathons crack in the sidewalls after a year or two
Panaracer Straitus Pro crack all over the casing after a year-ish

This isn't wear as such, it is just the casing "ageing" or something. The sidewall cracks seem pretty harmless. The crazing on the Stratius Pro was affecting the shoulders and the main tread. This could in theory lead to more punctures, although this didn't happen. They have been taken off the bike and put in the spares pile

If the tyres don't look worn then take them back to the shop you got the bike from. 6 months is too soon for this sort of problem to occur. If it is really the same as I was seeing it is not "wear and tear"

The tyres on my winter hack were years old before I treated myself to a pair of CityJets and the sidewalls were so perished that if you rub them you get little crumbs of hard rubber. Despite plenty of abuse nothing untoward ever happened though. Not exactly mechanically sympathetic or best practice, but it was only my hack. So I wouldn't be overly concerned, I don't think your tyre is about to shred itself. If you can get it replaced for a different brand FOC, I would though.
