Next time I strip, clean and regrease my wheel hubs I really must remember to wipe the rims down with a clean rag and a drop of degreasing solvent before riding the bike rather than wait until I am half way down a hill and suddenly need a handful of brakes!

Ah yes.. nothing like that brown trouser moment @ 35mph.. to permanently embed in your memory the need to wipe the rims down with a solvent after you do anything with lubricants anywhere near the bike..

Funny how the human mind works.. some things.. we need to learn a dozen or so times.. but that sudden swamp-pants feeling seems to put a permanent post-it note on the brain re: cleaning rims off....

been there.. done that...

Never done that but I have forgotten to return the brakes quick release to its proper position - fortunately noticing before a major braking moment!
