A novel idea has been proposed....

Ride to our holiday in Cornwall as the lovely Helen needs to be in the land of her father's the week before and I don't want to take a second car.

Do-able Greg...what are you going to do for the other two days?!

It'll be at least 350km.

The A30 after Winchester is perfectly good for cycling on. Not that busy as most of the traffic is on the A303.

This is my route for London to Cornwall:- http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/143181

The detour after Crewkerne was to visit my parents, just stay on the A30 to Chard.

Tried it once and got as far as Honiton before the poor weather took its toll (torrential rain during the day). Was due to try it again this year but had to cancel the holiday. Maybe next year...

P.S. From Crewkerne onwards it is hilly. Very hilly if you follow this route through Dartmoor.

I'm a mouse not a mouseketeer! no recent experience of doing 60 mile days over and over..... but 120km a day does sound do-able and an excellent excuse for pub food for lunch and dinner.

alt.train version is £30 rail fare to exeter with my network card and cycle from there - boring in comparison

do you know I think I will, just need to find a couple of nice cyclist friendly B&B's at suitable spots en route. How hard can that be? A debit card, a toothbrush, a pannier full of waterproofs and clean kit, some tools and a spare tube. What else could I need? oh yeah jelly babies.

Not done anything this daft since I cycled to Holyhead when I was 18 - this road biking business is addictive.

Looking at the economics has made me take a different angle. I reckon 2 x BB + 2 lunch + 2 dinners would not see me with any change from a ton / ton fifty.

05:38 Train from home to Clapham Junction for £12.60
07:17 Train from Clapham Junction (with a reserved cycle space) to Exeter for £11.00!!!!!

Gets me to Exeter for 10:30

100km ish ride to the holiday spot - FoC gets there in time for tea, can't check in until 16:00 anyway. Jobsagoodun.
