I'm plotting a training ride between Ipswich and Norwich and I'm after suggestions as to where I should head for in Norwich, such as a good cafe.

I'm not familiar with the City, but unless it is particularly cycle-friendly, I'd prefer not to go too far in.

Thanks in advance.

Well, we Norwich lot must seem mighty inhospitable to you:whistle:
Let me welcome you to Narrrrrrch:bravo:

I suppose it all depends on how your route is going to bring you into the City. Also, are you after a big slap up meal to fuel your return, or just a cake stop?

Thanks; I always think us East Anglians should stick together against the barbarian hordes!

Unless anyone has a better idea, I plan on riding the B1113 so I'll be hitting the SW of the city between the A11 and the A140.

It looks to be just short of 100km so I'll be up for a reasonable feed and the opportunity to stretch my limbs.

B1113 would be choice as well Jimmy, however given the amount of speed restrictions on the A140 you could probably keep up with the traffic on that ^_^

HGVs going 30mph still make you go 'splat'!

Norwich city centre is fairly compact - I'd head for 'the bicycle shop' on St. Benedicts street - they sell good food and good beer! It's more of a resturant/bar/pub than a cake shop though. You'll need a good bike lock as well.

B1113 it is then!

The Bicycle Shop on St Benedicts sounds great, although good beer might be too much of a temptation...

I'd also rather not be lugging a good (ie heavy) lock with me, I'd prefer somewhere quieter where I can get away with a lightweight "cafe" lock.

There is a nice cafe in the village of Trowse just on the outskirts of Norwich. It's called Unwind, but google is a bit off and shows a house around the corner, the cafe is on the corner of White Horse Lane/The Street.

The link above shows a route from the B1113, all 30 or 40mph limits, so if you don't fancy the city centre, and want to keep an eye on your steed then it may be ok.

When is your trip planned for?

Many thanks for that PBV, it sounds ideal, especially as I'm considering returning via a route to the East of the A140.

Assuming the weather isn't too foul I'll try it this coming weekend.

I'm following a training plan to get me to 600km by the end of the season, so I'll be on it several times, riding my current 100km loop twice is making me dizzy!

Riding from city to city in the UK is fraught with problems, that's why Audax routes generally avoid them. There are many lovely cycle routes in East Anglia, and Ipswich-Norwich would be very low on my list of days out.
Why not download the National 400 route, which uses the B1113 from Bacton to Kenninghall, and have a day meandering round it?

I quite agree, but this is a training ride to get the miles in, rather than a meander to take in the scenery.

As such it suits me well as it is quite straightforward. I've found another 200km loop via Attleborough, but lacking GPS or experience of writing course notes, I want to be comfortable doing 200km before I tackle it.

All things being equal I will be on the National 400 so I'll get to see the sights then.

Are you sure you're signed up for the 400? We don't usually allow riders from Ipswich to enter - trouble with long queues at the border, you know. Too many of you trying to emigrate and all that!!^_^
