Hello people im new here and to biking,
I have been biking country roads around Norwich, well the 5 long rides I have done are Norwich to Cromer and back 45 miles at 14.9mph av, a 30 mile fast trip at 16mph av, another 45 to Elsing etc. at 14.9mph av and a hard 50 today in 27* heat at 15.3mph av. Ive signed up for the Norwich 100 (in 4 weeks!!!!) and am worried about making it or being pushed to the finish by the stewards for taking so long, has anybody here had the experience of no training and basically 6 weeks training to completing a century? any pointers on training or routes would be appreciated!

Don't worry - you'll be in a pack for the first 25 miles. It's usually not too bad until you hit the coast....the 'hills' between Cley and Sheringham can take their toll after 45 miles, and then the exposed leg from Sheringham to Horsey is tough if there is a wind. Best thing to do is ensure you are always riding with someone else - you'll push each other on.

You don't need to worry about being sucked up by the sag wagon here either as quite a few people take over 8 hours and the stuff in the Close is there for a while.

looking at what you have allready done your not going to struggle on the 100. Take some energy food , drink plenty and dont set off too fast.

I did the Suffolk 100 yesterday - I remember now that 100 miles isn't a walk in the park!! Should be good training for the Norwich 100 in a few weeks time though. Going off too fast is the classic mistake of a rookie, especially on the day with all the excitement and other riders - resist temptation if possible and you'll pass many of them during the last 30 miles! Go off too fast yourself and you could have a truely miserable experience for the last couple of hours.

I did this last year, and was totally terrified at the prospect, especially as a: it was my first 100, and b: I was doing it on an old commute-friendlied MTB.

However, I was riding with my nephew, my brother and some of his colleagues, and to echo some previous posts, we all pretty much stuck together and supported each other, and it was a totally enjoyable experience and I was pleased with a 6½hr finish.

Will1985 has pretty accurately summed up the route. Look out for the slow buses along the coast road - one pulled an unexpected stop on a narrow part and almost caused a huge pile up at one point.

Doing it again this year, but don't have my number yet…

Good luck, Nialls, you'll be fine!
