Can anyone give me an idea of what kind of things could help me prepare for this ride?

It's not guaranteed that I will be going for it as a friend is still undecided to do it too, but there's a good chance I will, but I have done no training of any sort in preparation for it or even registered yet.

I did the 100 a couple of times about 10 years ago with some strong cyclists, and don't recall struggling with the pace or distance, and I was a heavy smoke then too.

The person I am possibly doing it with is a fairly novice cyclist so I don't think pace will be a problem.

Part of me is quite confident that I can just jump on my bike and get through it, as I cycle regularly and am relatively fit, but another part feels like I'll bonk really badly or just get really ground down by the whole thing...

There's still some time to get some training in. In terms of what training you would need I imagine would be dependant on what fitness level you are currently at / what distance rides you currently do.

I have got my first metric century this weekend, so have been 'training' for it. That has consisted of my usual rides, plus adding in a few longer rides to get me use to the distance / spending longer amounts of time in the saddle. Int he mast month I have managed to get in 56, 62 & 80 milers. Glad I have got the 80 under my belt as it has given me a better idea as to what I will need to do for the 100 and how much food and drink will be required.

The good thing for you is that Norfolk isn't renowned for it's hills, so thats one less thing to worry about. You can always take it easy and take plenty of breaks.

Good luck

^^ I did an old 50 route on Monday as training for the 100 and that wasn't too bad. It was on www.mapmyride.com so you could try that out and see how you go?
You planning on doing it geared, SS or fixed?

just take your time over the first 50 - drink plenty - above all - when you start aim to finish - its as much a mental battle as a phisical one
