Northumberland... county of my birth and a quite glorious county. If you go to the CTT website at

www.ctc.org.uk

and click on the link (left hand side of page) that says 'Clubs' it'll take you to the general club page. Then on that page, in the top at the middle, click on where it says 'North East (M)' and you'll get an alphabetical table of all clubs in the NE affiliated to CTT, and you can find out the contact details of each. Some may be purely racing, some will have good leisure/social rides. Some you may like the sound of, others not.

The British Cycling list of clubs for the NE is here

Hope this helps

Hi, thanks for welcoming, its Nika actually
I am already registered with 3 forums, always wrong ones, but i think club- northumberland sounds right ;) thanx !
I am just beginner, and my first bike was mountain bike, i've just got meself another one for me birthday, but to be honest since i ttrated cycling i developed really big muscles on my legs, i've heard that racing bikes are better for the woman's body as they help to burn the muscle. Is it right ?

I have not heard of that before, but I reckon it might be true.
Have you got a picture of your new bike ?
by the way sorry sor the spelling of your name

Hi Nika,

Welcome to the forum.
A relative newby myself and only been re-cycling for 6 months - LOVING IT

I found that most of the clubs in Newcastle (I live there) are race types and even though I have a road bike (as well as my hybrid) I am not ready to be humiliated by the super cyclists at these groups.
My wife and I tootled on our bikes a couple of weeks ago to Morpeth for Sunday lunch - lovely little place (The Bakers Kitchen?)

There is a newly formed cycle club at work and I am currently organising a Coast to Coast Workington to Tynemouth over two days next June, I'll not really be ready for this until early next year anyway.

Good luck with your hunt for a group

Good luck with the club

big legs might mean you;re pedallng slowly in a big gear

better to pedal fast in a high gear, gives you fitness and tone without building big muscles

essentially you're right though,a road bike would be better for your legs, all things being equal, and it'd be a load more fun for riding on the road

I have very close idea what you mean , and i am not ready myself for meeting professional cyclists, so thats why prefer to find a company over the forum , not going straight to the club maybe.
And to be honest i thought i'm doing really much of cycling by going from Amble to Ashington and back which takes me around 4 hours, i am not sure about miles ,it is maybe around 40 mile, but when i found out how many mile other cyclists from the forums do i stoped feeling so good about myself,i was astonished , that how is it possible to do 140 miles on a bike a day !!!!

Probably you are right,i prefer to go in a big gear but it doesn't mean that i go slow,to be fair, i often go on a road but where i live roads not even everywhere , there are lotsa hills, where i have to change gear to higher one ( i am not sure if i am correct, when it is more difficult to peddalling then it is lower gear, is it ?) but anyways it is more work for muscle when you cycling on the hill, sometimes it is so painfull in the muscle you often have to standing up

No worries Nika,

Amble to Ashington is about 12.5 miles each way and still impressive - you brave the A1068!! and probably a very cold headwind all the way home over the last two weeks!!

As to distances travelled - it's all relative.
Some of us are young, fit and have the time to cycle outside of work/home/kids/DIY, and others like me don't (46 and too much work/home/kids/DIY).
I still love the commute I do of 5 miles each way and try - when I can get a chance - to get out for an hour at weekends.
I have lost bulk but gained muscle and feel much better for it (apart from Wednesdays when it always seems harder - even on my road bike).

Anyhoo - I have to do some work now

Happy hunting
