Noobish wheel question

What size are standard mountain bike wheels in diametre? 26inch?
I know now you can get 29inch versions as well.
The reason I ask is the wheels on my new hybrid look bigger than the ones on my mountain bike

700C on the Sirrus range.

Most road-based Hybrids will have 700c wheels, the same as road bikes. These are (conveniently) the same size as 29" MTB wheels, though most MTB's will have been fitted with 26" wheels. Most MTB manufacturers are dropping 26" and moving to 29" or the 650b (27.5") sizes.

Why are they referred to as 700c if they are 29 inch and what does 700c mean.
Im sure some hybrids have smaller wheels same as MTBs.

I think 700c and 29 differentiates between road and mtb stuff.

Not all hybrids are based on mtb frames - some have similar geometries and use the same size wheels as road bikes.
