I recently had the crankset and BB replaced under warranty on my Ridley. I now have an FSA Vero chainset with some shop standard BB fitted. I'm going to be taking the bike back to have it looked at but won't be able to for a week or so, so thought I'd ask on here first.
Basically everything is fine other than when under pressure (uphill) when I push down with my left leg it sounds like the crank is going through a ratchet of some description, it clicks repeatedly. When I push down with the right leg it's silent, then back to the left and clicky clicky clicky.

Any thoughts? Is it just a crap BB?

Even if it's a cheapo BB it's new so it should be quiet. Is it not your pedals or your shoes, (assuming you're clipless that is), they are a regular cause of noise irritation.

Have a look at THIS site, loads of tips on locating annoying noises.

Hi, I'm actually using single sided clipless pedals and was riding using the flat side and a pair of trainers.
I'm not sure what an out of saddle test is, I've lifted the back wheel and spun the crank if that's what you mean, it didn't make any noise, but as I said it only seems to do it under relatively heavy pressure, up a hill for example.

So stand on the pedals and go up a hill, to see if it is the saddle rails making the noise. Could point you in another direction. I tried the out of the saddle test, still had the noise, but figured out it was the pedals making the noise, after all. Replaced pedals, all is well. Your results may vary.

It might be the BB but tighten your stem and handlebar bolts and swop your pedals if possible. Also nip up your chainring bolts, double check your skewers, even tighten your cleats on your shoes.
