It's only present once I change up to roughly the middle of the cassette and beyond. Lower gears, nothing. And only under drive. I changed the BB last week which didn't cure it, but that was before the deeper analysis showed it to be higher gear related.

I'm about to remove the cassette and give it all a general clean and service in that area, although tbh I can't see how that will help other than it will be shinier. I understand that noise is amplified through the frame etc, but this is a four month old bike with less than 700miles on the clock, so I wasn't expecting anything to have worn out this soon.

Any ideas in case my cassette clean up doesn't resolve it? Oh and for the record it's a Cube Peloton Pro with ten speed cassette.

As you say, low mileage- unlikely to be wear/ failure. Sounds like rear mech cable needs a little adjustment- probably just needs a little tighten.

The description of the noise is about right for that problem. If you bought it from a shop you can probably take it in for a free tune-up.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Mine developed a similar symptom when i changed my wheels, turned out the new wheel needed a 1 mm spacer as the cassette was a smidge loose so in the gears would rumble in the same gears as yours .Inserted the spacer and the ride was sweet again.

Thanks for the input so far. It's nothing as obvious as anything fouling anything etc. It's not present for the first few miles, but then at around the four mile mark and from then on, whenever in from about 6 up to and including 10, the noise is there, but only when pedalling. It's taken about 60 miles with me constantly checking to get this far with the analysis. I'm about to remove the wheel and get the citrus out for a general clean up, update to follow in case it helps with anyone with similar issues. Assuming once I reassemble it all, the problem's resolved :-)

Have you got a rack or mudguards on. Bolt sticking through and fouling the chain?

If it's in gears 6-10 (by which I take to mean the smaller sized cogs) check that the cassette lockring has been fully tightened as these are the loose single cogs and even the slightest bit of movement can create a bad rattling noise - I had something similar last year.

The choice of chainring makes no difference. I'm going on a club ride in an hour so I will know after whether my 'service' on the cassette has made any difference, stand by

I have the same bike and and done about 500 miles on it.
I had a similar noise and it turns out it was the chain was rubbing on the front derailleur took a bit of tweaking but it has stopped now.
