I hate to tell you this but Australian men have been wearing Ugg boots for years. My very 'macho' friends lived in them during the winter - it gets bloody cold in the winter  (minus temps are not uncommon) and when you don't have central heating Uggs are an absolute must.

No, I hope they do not become de-rigeur for men. They are frequently common on women. Or should that be frequent on common women.

Women wearing them with tracksuit bottoms tucked in... awful, simply awful

They really are the most hideous fashion items ever, but there are far too many idiots out there who'll pay good money to look bad in them.

Is Ugg some kind of play on Ugly, 'cos that's what they are and that's usually a good description of the fat, tarted-up chavette wearing them.

IIRC, the N.Devon/Cornwall surfing fraternity were wearin g them in the late 70's and early 80's. They were just the thing after a blowy day's surfing in Feb when your feet got so bloody cold even with neoprene booties.

Ugg boots are not that practical where it is really cold and wet in winter as they aren't remotely waterproof... it's just people buying in to marketing hype.

I relented and bought my daughter some (not Ugg branded - they cost a frickin fortune).
I think the name comes that film called Ugg about a caveman, played by that Jaws bloke from 007.

They remind me of Russian felt valenki boots (see A Day in The Life of Alexander Denisovitch and any film about the Battle of Stalingrad).

The unholy union of slippers and wellies.
