Hi just realised it's 12 months on the 12th of Feb since I got rid of the car !! and not only that I have worked out my milage on the bike which is 3,211. something not to worried about that bit lol, and the stupid thing is we only used to do around 1200 or so in the car which is why I got shut of the thing ! but just why the increase in the mileage who knows all I know is I am realy enjoying the cycling hail rain snow what ever looking forwards to even more miles this year lol.

I don't need my car, but I love having one and work hard for the privilege of keeping that convenience. Doesn't mean that I didn't think long and hard about whether or not to get rid.

I'm very glad it's working out for you!

That's very nice not needing a car. I envy you.
I hope it's not too long before I can get rid of mine.
I'd get rid of it tomorrow but the OH won't hear of it. She gets really anti if I just suggest it.
Perhaps the gear box will fall out or something 'cause we would never be able to afford a big repair or get another car.

I wish I could get rid of a car, that would be FAB! And the mobile phone, and the land line, and email for that matter. But then I would not be able to do the job I hate doing.

I think I need to reassess my life.

I am lucky that way in the fact that I have a few family living round about here and if I desperately need a car (to pick up n+1) or something then I can borrow one. Most of the time it involves something to do with bikes or running round my step brother to doctors or hospital etc. Everything else gets done on a bike.

I thought shopping would be a pain in the proverbials but just go twice a week instead of once. As long as you have 2 sets of weather gear it soon becomes the norm to go out what ever its doing outside.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
With the health problems of my wife and son and a 1 year old a car is to useful to get rid of ,especially as if i need to get to work and the bike is out of action their are not buses that run to where i work and local services are poor to start with.
I only really drive the car maybe once a week at most to visit my mum with the kids or when we go on holiday.Otherwise i do not drive, clocked about 5300 miles on the bike last year and i know their are many on here who do a lot more !

three wheels on my wagon
Much as the idea may have appeal, I would find it hard to survive without the cars in my family. I do my local estimates and running about on my butchers bike but really think I might struggle carrying headstones in the basket. Good luck and enjoy it all those who have made the decision. Also I love my old and classic cars and vans and hope to get another next year.

Hi Joe my OH used to hate driving so did not have that much of a problem in that department lol, plus being the sensible person she is also realised that the 27 miles a week we where doing which consisted of one shopping trip and taking the youngest to work was something of a luxury to say the least ! the final killer came with the last insurance renewal which due to me having sleep apnea which I have to tell the insurance company and the jolly old DVLA about this put the insurance through the roof due to me being an INCREASED risk so it was no contest just not worth it. I worked out that it was going to cost us around £32 per week of which £4.00 of this was for fuel so bye bye car.
