9 punctures in 5 weeks... all in the same back wheel which was fitted just before it started. Shall I go back to the LBS tomorrow and give them hell????

are you riding in the gutter? are you going the same route every time? try changing, might be something on the road you havent noticed. With each puncture do you fix it yourself or do you take it to LBS? if you fix it do you do all the proper checks (check where hole is, then check rim/tire at that point)?

Sounds to me like something wasn't right about what they did. That's a lot of punctures. Maybe the rim tape not covering a spoke properly of a burr inside the wheel. You really need to check.

I think we need some more info.

Do you know what type of punctures they are? Are they consistent? If it's a snakebite then you haven't got your tyres hard enough.

I had a run of flats on my rear wheel recently. Turned out that there was a hole through the tyre and the edge of the 'ole was wearing through my inner tubes.

Had a terrible spell once with a new wheel, the rim tape was rubbish, a couple of wraps of elctrical tape sorted it

Had three flats in a week a month ago, all seemed to be genuine flats from sharp things, had nothing since, same tyre, same tube, sometime it happens

9 in 5 weeks is absurd, get the tube and tyre off and scowl at the wheel, tape it yourself

* use the left tyre track, where cars have swept the debris away, learn to look for where that is on the road.
* don't use cycle paths, ever
* get new tyres

Ditto with the boy's bike, except three tubes went. two patches refused to take. As I was engaged eslewhere, even had other dads tape wheel and fit a tube. Nothing wrong, ever.

I'm not new to this, just seemed to be a bad week. Fourth tube in, (and they weren't batched) seems to be holding up.

Hi guys....

This divvy blonde (although I am not) bint has checked back tyre and it's .... *cough* shagged. I have also just checked the front to find 3 nasty small gashes. I was going to take the wheel to the LBS (I rang) but then, after taking the wheel off, I noticed all the damage.

I was just a little surprised as these are conti gators and less than a year old!!!

Thanks for all the replies though. I have ordered 2 new tyres so will see how I go.....

*shuffles off very enbarrassed but glad of the advice*

Ok, when you say 'shagged'*, how bad are they, exactly? Gators have a reputation for cutting up badly, but they tend to collect small bits of flint, glass etc and, because of the way that they are built, push them back out again. If you've got nicks and cuts, that doesn't necessarily mean that the thing that caused it has gone all the way through or been the cause of your punctures. Baggy and I both run Gators, we ride on some pretty rough and crappy paths and our tyres generally last a good 5,000+ miles. Hopefully the new tyres will fix the problem, but don't rule out the possibility that they might not...

* - I do, of course, know that a lady of your calibre does have a fairly good idea of when something is well shagged.

Some like Gators, some hate them, me included, I gave mine away after two weeks, flats and cutting up like a maniac had attacked with a cleaver, that and loosing it in the wet

as for cutting up, hard to say, if you look close at tyres there'll be plenty of cuts and nicks, ride them until they wear thin or too many flats really
