I went in there this afternoon to buy a few bottles of beer when i was confronted by some security guard who asked me to take my bike helmet off. He told me that it was for security reasons, as "it covers my head, and it's an offensive weapon"! I pointed out the other head gear items being worn in the store such as jester type hats with bells on,veils, wooley hats, father Christmas hats and others. He said that mine wasn't allowed, just as helmets aren't allowed in banks and petrol stations. I pointed out to him that a cycle helmet doesn't cover the face therefore i'm not covering up my identity, but he wasn't having it and asked me to take it off or leave. He also said that it could be used as an offensive weapon, so i pointed out that that would only be the case if i took it off as he asked. What do you reckon jobsworth or what?!

Mrs Svendo (who isn't at all annoying reading over my shoulder- owww! [she's still at it!]) has been asked to take a woolly hat off in Rochdale Tesco. It's one of those things where the guard makes a possibly hasty decision but then isn't going to back down.

Ask for the guards name ask for the store manager or his deputy, then ask his name, discuss their policy on islamic head covering, video/record the event if possible and tell them to view it on Youtube or read it on twitter then inform the manager you will be talking to their publicity dept.

Thats if you are a complete b,stard of course ^_^
Myself i would have just taken he helmet off ailthough i would have "Mitchelled" he guard ^_^

My response would have been to ask why. After that I would then remove the helmet, walk about 10 paces until away from Jobsworth and then put it back on.

Local jobcentre has the same policy. You can't even carry one, let alone wear one. Never has polystyrene been so frightening!

Maybe he was an ex jobcentre jobsworth.

No one mentioned anything when I walked through Bury and Prestwich Job Centres holding a motorcycle helmet and top-box (solid plastic pannier/briefcase that attaches to the bike)

If 250 grams of polystyrene puts the fear of god into them, how do you expect them to even dare talk to a motorcyclist?
