If you are lucky and the wheelbuilder stuck to the rules, you may be able to remove the nipples with a screwdriver stuck into the rim from the tyre side. Nipples have a slot on top, however, if the spoke length is too long, the slot is compromised. If you have "slot" available, it is still a two-man job. One person must prevent the spoke from winding up/twisting whilst the other uses both hands to steady the driver, otherwise the slot can strip too. However, usually the solution is to cut the spoke.

As above, most spoke nipples also have a slotted head

Providing the spoke itself does not fill the gap, they can be undone with e wide flat head screwdriver

update,

thanks everyone. much appreciated the advice.

i found some snippers this morning and have been cutting the spokes and replacing them. its my first wheel. i think once i figured marking the spokes with some flags it all become pretty clear lol for now anyway. also ive pretty much wrecked alot of nipples over the previous few months figuring the feel of things, so when i adjusted a few things last week the wheel went buckled pretty bad due to the uneven tensions id introduced earlier.

ive already purchased last week new nipples and spokes. 284mm. i also got a pretty nice truing jig for £15 of guntree which is probs worth a photo. i have a spoke tensioner on order, but this guy,

learnt without one, so following his advice for a week or two lol.
