I paid a visit to the in-laws in Kent this past weekend and after spending a bit of time checking out some routes I set off from Kingswood with a laminated card with directions that would hopefully see me complete a 50 mile ride in the 'garden of England'. I cycled through Chart Sutton then climbed Smiths Hill to Yalding. After collecting my route card from the gutter a couple of times (it was tucked into my glove) I continued to Horsmonden and Goudhurst (very pretty) Quite a large group/club passed in the opposite direction. A good decision, possibly based on local knowledge of wind conditions. I ploughed on into the breeze to Swattenden and Rolvenden before heading towards Tenterdon, Biddenden and Headcorn. I had ridden the last bit on a borrowed mountain bike during a previous visit so I stopped worrying about losing the card. I then climbed East Sutton Rd back to Kingswood to complete the circuit. A very picturesque ride with some nice little climbs to keep the heart rate up. A nice change from riding in 'the valleys'. I will definitely bring the bike on all future visits although I did miss the mother-in -law while I was out n about
