Hi nannie, :sad:

There's quite a few people on here from over there. And they all seem quite nice ;)
You should get some good advice before too long.

Hi nannie!

I don't know what sort of distance you're up to, but it would be worth getting the Ordnance Survey landranger map for Hull (map number 107, you should find that a big branch of Smiths has them in the book section). The most recent edition has the Transpennine trail, Route 65, marked on it. That will take to north east to Hornsea. I've not ridden it myself, but it'll be pretty flat, and looks to be off road a lot (anyone able to comment on the surfacing?).

Hang on, how stupid am I, of course I've ridden it. It rained....:wacko: Perfectly suitable surface for a Karakum, I handled it on a much skinner road bike, until I started to dissolve.

Invest in the map to the west, 106, and you can follow the route westwards too, along the Humber, and up to Howden and beyond. And you can also cycle over the Humber Bridge and back, which is fun.

Keep an eye on the Informal Rides section, we Yorkies and East Yorkies try and get together frequently for a jaunt, and we're very sociable and fond of cafes....:biggrin:

+1 for what Arch said. There are loads of quiet roads around Hull which are good to cycle on. Get at OS map or the Sustrans one which covers East Yorkshire and choose a route depending on where you are in Hull. If you want some company I don't mind coming and doing a few miles with you. Just send me a PM (private message).

Arch - had you erased the Hornsea ride from your memory? I guess you couldn't see the Rail Trail under all the water!

I would personally recommend any route OUT of Hull, they all go to a better place.

Get big enough panniers and you can stay away for days..... bliss

I must have done, I really didn't connect the line of dots on the map with that day, then suddenly it clicked....

D'oh!

Would be nice to do it again, without the bath....

The sustrans route out to Howden is really nice past South Cave. Very quiet with lots of non-threatening wildlife usually available for your perusal. The road out of Willerby to S Cave via Raywell is lovely too, with the hill down into the village a real white knuckle ride. There's a great Italian bakery and a twee cafe in S Cave for treats mid ride.

Guess where I live :biggrin::smile:
