Depends on budget ....

Shimano and northwave are pretty decent
Sidi require a new mortgage

Go to a shop, try some on, buy the ones that are most comfortable (and possibly allow for an extra pair of socks)

If you want to walk, recessed cleats on an MTB style. I have Specilaized Tahoes and Specialized Sonomas (I have pretty wide feet).

I think Sidi road shoes at least have no cleat recess and cost £200+

Does your keyboard have no punctuation by the way?

If you want to walk in them, there are lots of SPD shoes with recessed cleats that are relatively comfy.
You gave to realise that cleated shoes are designed for cycling and to put plenty of your leg power to the pedals, so have minimised flex due to integrated sole insert stiffeners.
These will allow walking but not really long distances etc.

i have had shimano, dhb, northwave, lou garnaue and mavic's

and the mavics have been by far the most comfortable to wear

I got a pair of Shimano M088 at the weekend to go with my M540 pedals. Already prefer them to my previous shoes that were lace ups.

Since converting to clipless, I've used Mavic Pulse. They are SPD but there is a road equivalent. Really good, stiff shoe for riding.
I walked my punctured bike home (approx 1 mile) last week and they were excellent. I forgot I was wearing them.

I don't wear them much now, the cleats aren't correctly positioned and thanks to chewing gum stuck in the holes (sodding crap), not easy to move!!

Shimano MTB shoes are good, hard wearing and comfortable.
They can be purchased at good prices if you shop around.
Get a half size larger than your ordinary shoe.
