I have just purchase my first bike in 25 yes with the vie to keeping fit, losing weight and commuting to work.
I have bought a Boardman team hybrid but have no knowledge on how to keep the chain, sprockets, gears etc in fine fettle regarding lubrication, cleanliness etc.
What products should I be using? How often should I lubricate the chain? What other parts need daily, weekly, monthly attention?
Any answers would be great as I am obviously green as grass.
Thanks Maf.

This is a popular method http://www.cyclorama.net/blog/advice/51/

I use Finish line dry lube - I shall confess occasionally, but I am mainly a fair weather rider. Do you plan to commute in all weathers?

Firstly :welcome: to the forum.
Look up how to look after your chain using the mickle method its on the forum. I clean and lube the chain every week without fail.If its been very wet(i commute every day,and ride for pleasure at weekends).I mickle during the week. There will be plenty of people on here recommending different lubes.I am currently using fenwicks stealth on the road bike, used mainly in the dry.
Fenwicks wet lube on the commuting hybrid. These are just my personal choice.
Baby wipes are your best friend for keeping the bike clean
Mr sheen or pledge keeps the frame looking good and helps stop muck sticking to it.
Keep the wheel rims clean(if you have rim brakes).visually check your tyres for bits of glass, sharp stones etc.
I apply a little general lube to pivot points just to keep everything running smooth.
I am sure others will be along to offer help and advice
