Hi everyone. I am new here (there's a surprise). After 20 years of not riding bikes I decided to get one to get fit. I went into a local bike shop and bought a GTR Series 5. It had been reduced from £499 to £399 and then to £350 to meet my budget. Have I been seen off? The shop concerned has been there for a long time... I'd really appreciate any opinions. I have googled it and not a great deal comes back. I looked on GT Bicycles website and it is not even listed there... Everything about the bike seems okay. I took it out today for the first time and it did not dis-integrate under me

What do you guys reckon?

google brought up a few hits for me. e.g

It seems this model was discontinued for the 2008 lineup
It is retailing for £380 online and the specs look decent for that price, so looks like you got a good deal

Phew, I feel a little relieved. Being very new to the modern world of bikes it is really hard to tell what is good and what isn't. All these different brand names for each different component etc,. Does anyone know of a website that is designed to bring visitors up to speed with whats what?

Best thing you can do is stick around here and just ask specific question e.g. I want a suspended seat post, anybody know of any good ones? Then you'll get a decent but not overwhelming consensus of answers from people who've actually used the kit in question.
