Hi all, I,ve been looking at various bikes on the net, not actually tried any yet, my budget could stretch up to £350 for a hybrid (nearly all roads but some towpaths). The thing is, due to money circumstances i'd prefer paying in installments, a local shop to me, All Terrain Cycles, are offering various deals. I was thinking of Giant 2009 CRS 4.0 (£260) or Trek 2009 7.0 Fx (£285). What are your views on these bikes.

Thanks in advance.

Rik.

You wont go far wrong with either of those bikes.

It's critical that you try before you buy!

I've got the Giant 2008 CRS 3.0 and can't fault it at all. Like RedBike said though, it's definitely worth trying before you buy.

Think thats all that can be said really (although there will be many more posts no doubt), they are both well regarded from major manufacturers and its just down to personal preference, what feels right to you, never buy from an LBS that wont let you take a bike out for a test though.

Absolutely right. It's nothing to do with the cost of the bike either IMO - just good practice on the part of the bike shop to let you try before you buy.

Usually take some form of ID or leave a friend as collateral.

I once let a beautiful young woman take a bike for a test ride without taking any details, she was away for two and a half bloody hours and the boss was trying really hard not to freak out. I 'knew' she'd be back with it but the sun was going down and the shop was about to close and the old bugger was looking at me like I was the most irresponsible twat he'd ever employed and she rolled into the shop and bought it. Phew!

I ended up marrying her! Ha.

I ended up divorcing her actually but that's another story.
