Hi there I'm new to this cycling business and have just recently purchased and awaiting delivery of a Boardman Cx Comp, i brought this style bike as in a couple of months i am doing a charity ride for a local club, its london to brighton and also i wanted something that i can use on my local towpaths and parks etc.
My question is what is the best size i.e. thinnest road tyre i could put on this bike it comes with a cross (road/off road) tyre which i think is 700 x 35c not sure tho any help would be appreciated as i am a amateur and do not have expierience.
thanks

A 28mm should be a definate, perhaps even 25mm depending on rim width. What you're looking for is a slick with lower rolling resistance, a 28mm Continental GP 4 Season would fly along IMHO.

That's my weapon of choice at the moment. But like you I'm still new to cycling and I have been doing it for a year and a half.

The late great Sheldon has a useful chart here: http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html Scroll down to "width consdierations" and iot will tell you what tyres you can/should use on what rims. It's a bit conservative. I've certainly disobeyed it (using bigger than recommended tyres) with no ill effects.

By the way I'm a fan of Durano plus 28s, for their resistance to things beginning with P.

Damn! I've hexed myself now.

You can go as low as 700 x 23's but the ride is rather harsh as I had to add specialized bar phat to help absorb the vibrations, so I switched to 700 x 25's, not as harsh a ride on road, but still wished I'd gone a little higher and put 700 x 28's ... you're best option is to go with 700 x 28 tyres of choice
