Newark Old Kelham Road?

I don't know the area but, having taken a look, I'm not very convinced by the quality of the OpenStreetMap data in this spot (which is what cyclestreets.net uses, as do cycle.travel and other journey-planners). It appears to have been mapped 'remotely' without a survey and there was a fairly obvious error at the crossing. I'd strongly assume that you can't cross the A46 there... though I may be wrong!

No, you can't. It's a cul de sac, or as the French would say, voie sans issue. Just after the antiques centre, the road ends with a fence across it. Beyond that is the A46 Newark bypass. I went past (by car) only yesterday.
Is that likely to be your new commute route? If so, I reckon you should be OK on the main roads: A617, then A612 through Upton to Southwell. The scariest part is the narrow bridge over the Trent at Kelham. Fortunately, lorry drivers tend to take this very slowly, but I've still occasionally found it prudent to walk at this point and pretend to be admiring the river. Unfortunately, there's not much alternative to using the A617 up to at least this point, due to the scarcity of bridges over the Trent.
The cyclestreets route is also rather suspect after the crossroad shown between Kelham and Hockerton - I think the minor road becomes a still more minor road, and then a little-used footpath for the best part of half a mile (SK735576 to 730578). I rode out near here about 3 weeks ago, including Kelham to South Muskham, North Muskham, Caunton, Knapthorpe, Hockerton and Southwell. Nice quiet roads, but a bit meandering compared with the more direct main roads route. Not necessarily a problem, I know!
