Maybe it's not the best idea to steal a bike from professionals? Particularly when they're able to chase you down.

One note: it appears to have taken just a few minutes for several police cars to arrive and act. It wouldn't happen here.

In the UK the police might have arrived, but then told off cyclists for posting it on X.

In Australia the police would have beaten him up.

In Texas he'd have been shot before the police arrived.

The thief was due to appear at Invercargill District Court the following day. The Police response and rapid court appearance is the way the system SHOULD work, and not so long ago was the way it DID work (in Scotland anyway, to my knowledge). Sadly since we went soft on crime and the causes of crime, we can only dream of that now. In the modern UK, the thief would have been released from Police custody before the cyclists chips had gone cold, and they would all be riding steel tourers with Brooks saddles by the time he appeared in court.
