Hi all, bought some new wheels (mavic askium) from merlin cycles on Wednesday. Unfortunately the cones are not tight on the front wheel, massive shame as I had a club ride planned for tomorrow and now can't do it. My problem is I can get the cones sorted at my lbs which is much easier than sending them back (cost and time) as far as I can work out on their returns policy I would have to pay for the return as well which seems ridiculous. Has anyone experienced a simular problem and what advice would you give? Just wanna get this sorted asap.

Speak to Merlin, perhaps they will reimburse you if you get your LBS to do it?

FWIW if I'm dependant on something prior to an arranged ride I tend to buy locally to avoid any such problems.

The old ones are really knackered especially the front, that's why I bought the new ones, I think I'll call them and see about reimbursing the cost of a service, good idea and makes sense to me, hopefully it will to them too!

They should be under warranty. I recently had to send back my Mavic Ksyriums after a year's full use, via Ribble, due to a problem with seized nipples. Ribble calculated they'd take about 2 weeks at the Mavic factory, but Mavic, this side in UK, sorted them within a matter of days.

Ride what you can over the weekend, get the Mavics sent back and there'll be another set on their way before you know it, trust.

As others have said, just use the rear over the w/end, they can't argue with a faulty product whether it's been used or not and it's rare to send just the one wheel back. You send them both back.
