I took my wheel to a shop today after a spoke broke, and ended up with a new wheel instead! I half expected this, as I think the rim was bent during a brute force attempt at theft and I have been riding it about 1cm out of true for weeks with the brakes slacked to cope. When they put the wheel in the truing stand it was out of true pretty much at every point one way or the other!
The new wheel is very basic, but it's got me back on the road quickly; what I am wondering though is why the shop put it in a truing stand and trued it, checked the dish, released the tension, then retrued it etc. It's a Raleigh Tru-Build, so not a custom build, is it normal to do this with factory built wheels? I would have asked them but I'd prefer to look stupid here rather than face to face!
I also nearly came off, forgetting the brakes were now much more effective again, out in the rain I pulled too hard and, well you can guess what happened![Blush  ](/styles/default/xenforo/smls/blush.gif)
