Novice question here but I purchased a new set of wheels last weekend and have already put around 60 miles on them. Is there a need to have them looked at after a set amount of distance as I noticed on the first couple of rides there was a few little pings from the spokes where they must of been bedding in?

Everything is still true and straight but I didn't know if this is something that should be looked at or just left until a noticeable wobble in the wheel occurs.

I've never had wheels trued. I also tend to the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it school". Dunno if this is the "official line" as it were.

That said, I would do a bit of a check over on a new bike though, but not wheels unless they'd gone out of kilter - which they shouldn't

In my opinion there's no need to do anything. It may be good to check the brake blocks as they can often pick up tiny shards of aluminium from newly machined wheels. Pick the shards out with a fine tipped screwdriver or even a needle and give them a rub with sandpaper.

I had wheels built by a well-known local wheel-builder and he did say to bring them in after a few weeks, which I did. He made a couple of very minor tweaks, though the wheels seemed fine to me. A couple of years on they are still running true after several thousand miles. I'd be more concerned about factory-built wheels.

The pinging is just the spokes 'settling' in as the wheel is stressed and is normal.Just keep an eye on them and check they are running true (as you would as a matter of course anyway). A decent set of wheels should be fine - however, it is not unusual for many factory built wheels at the cheaper end top need truing out of the box!
