If your going to go for the elite from halfords then why not go for the bundle deal,it's a little over budget at £149.99 but includes the extras that you will need to buy anyway such as riser block, training mat and sweat thong, once you add your bc discount it would be quite a bargain.

I bought this^.
Best deal at the time with 10% off. Riser is worth having (a must have really), the mat is OK to stop carpet damage, net not used yet. Bigger plus is the elastogel roller which wears your tyres less (apparently).
Been using 2-3 weeks now, no issues.

I'd go for the better resistance curve properties and (much) lower noise levels of a fluid based turbo. More expensive though.

Personally I don't use a riser, a training mat or a sweat thong, so I would not class them as essentials.

Depends on circumstances really, without a riser your riding nose down which is fine if your comfortable in that position, if you are training indoors on a carpet and are riding enough to sweat then a mat is essential unless you want a sweat soaked carpet or if you are in a flat or upstairs and the trainer is on laminate, very noisy for those beneath you and lastly if you are using a nice bike and like the cosmetics then the thong is essential to stop the sweat from penetrating and corroding your paintwork.......all essentials for me:thumbsup:

If by a riser you mean the little block that levels your bike then I think all turbo's come with one. I thought you meant some contraption to make you feel like you were going uphill. I am set up on a tiled floor so no need for a mat, and I use a towel instead of a thong, I find it a lot more useful.

Yeah the wheel blocks are also known as risers, not all tts come with them, I tried a towel but the bugger kept falling off.

I don't find the mag noisy, but then top speed so far has been 16mph as I'm under physio, but even at this speed I don't need to turn the telly up more than 1 notch. You can use the yellow pages instead of the riser and a towel instead of sweat thong. I bought it all as one as it was cheap enough and suited me.

I just bought a Kurt Kinetic and it didn't come with a riser block. Don't think it's an essential as I just used to use a bit of wood before but the brick frog up is a good idea. And still just use a towel instead of a bike thong. Was looking at buying a mat until I saw the prices of them, it's cheaper just to buy some rubber on a roll from Machinemart. Haven't used anything for several years, just the concrete floor in the garage.^_^
