Was in one of my LBS this afternoon grabbing some bits and pieces when I saw two new trek bikes, belt drives ! Lifetime guarantee on belt. Looked cool as one was single speed ( hmm fixed would be nice ) the other driving through nexus hub. Must admit quite impressed albeit obviously aimed at a certain market.

I'd buy one for commuting thats for sure

Aerodynamic drag on a regular bike is about 80% at 20mph. The rest is split fairly equally between transmission drag and rolling resistance. Belts are less efficient than chains (which are up to 98% efficient) but require no maintenance whatsoever. So it's a trade-off; efficiency versus maintenance.

Not for me, but then I quite like sneaking away to the shed to lube my chain of an evening.

What are the belts made of?

Is it like the fan belt on a car, or made of metal?

Please bear in mind that only last week, Admin asked us all to visit a Section wot we had not visited before. If you are rude to me ;) ..
