After about 6 months of "making do" with MTB shoes & SPD's, I got some Wiggle vouchers for my birthday and I want to get some road-specific shoes (I already have pedals, but nothing to use with them!). I pretty much had my heart set on some Specialized, but given that Wiggle don't sell them, then I've had to re-think that.

Budget: I've got £100 of vouchers, plus (I think) £5 or £6 quid's-worth left on a voucher I got at Christmas. I can add a bit more in if it's a good deal, so figure a ceiling of £125-£130 tops.
Requirements: Would like something pretty stiff as I'm planning on starting to race later in the season. Light as possible (within financial reason). Needs to be in stock at Wiggle if at all possible, as I'm getting a bike fit next weekend and I'd really like to have them by then.

So far I've been quite taken with the Lake CX170 and CX236. The 170's got decent reviews as entry-level race shoes, but conversely the one review I can find of the 236's on bikeradar says that they lack stiffness for racing. I find it odd that the carbon-soled shoes would be like that, but the composite shoes would be any better. Shimano R106's got good reviews as an entry race shoe, but are now discontinued on the Wiggle site, presumably ahead of 2012 models coming out.

I know there's always a lot of discussion over fit, sizing, etc. For the time being, can we stick as far as possible to the relative merits of the shoes, rather than focussing on whether they fit or not - I'll be responsible for making sure that they do!
