New shock pump

Bought a new shock pump on the advice of a bike shop. I purchased the pump online as I couldnt be bothered to get one at the time I purchased my new MTB.

According to the LBS, using my track pump which is designed for tyres could damage the seals. I have used my track pump on my old MTB suspension without any issue. Old MTB rear sus requires about 80 PSI for my weight. My new MTB needs a higher pressure but still within the scope of my track pump.

So unless you require very high pressures, is a dedicated shock pump as necessary as they say? Cant help think its a sales ploy. Shock pump is definitely far more precise tho.
