I bought a new pair of M780 pedals and some XT trekking pedals too recently.

Both have the same axle assembly and both are already creaking under pressure.

I need to re-grease the bearings (something that always needs doing to most pedals) but can't find anything on the web. Loosening the nut isn't as simple as using the plastic tool for example on M520s.

Is there a special spanner/tool for this? What will I find in terms of bearings?

Why don't shimano use proper amounts of grease - their hubs are just as bad; it's beginning to annoy me!

Since you were asking what bearings presumably you have not seen this?

thanks for that

interesting that they have the same bearings as the much cheaper M520 pedals which explains why I'm already having problems - I thought that as they cost more than double they might have better bearings but clearly not - should have checked that before buying. Anyway, the good news is that I know how to service these and make them good for a few years use.
