I've been out on my specialized secteur elite for the first time since October & even with my bibs on, I was feeling discomfort within a mile. Now, I am a larger gent but don't recall it ever being this bad, so I'm wondering whether I should change my saddle?

I've had tbe bike for 3 years & am happy with it, but was thinking maybe a woder & softer saddle may do me better?

Personally, I would say to stick with what you have if it suited you before. I think time in the saddle will lead to you getting used to it again. Maybe use some chamois creme as well to avoid friction.

I see you mention in another post about building up to do a 100 mile ride so I think a softer saddle would definitely be a mistake. Maybe doesn't feel like it at the moment, but a firm saddle actually usually gets more comfy the longer you are on it, whereas a soft one starts to dig in and rub.

Ok thanks. I wasn't sure if the saddles had a shelf life or not. I used a small amount of cream, so will persist as am trying to build up time in the saddle.

they do have a life expectancy, but the one I got on best with lasted 7 or 8 years and many, many thousands of miles (it was a 12 month tour that finally ended its life!), so I would expect you to have a touch more life in it yet to be honest.

sadly the one thing I did not do when I finally found a comfortable saddle was purchase a 2nd one of it! Now back on the look out for a comfortable touring saddle - I don't get on with brook's saddles... and when I do finally find one, I will be purchasing a 2nd one, I promise!

After the last post about your experience with the phenom on the tourer I did a test on my MTB and I set it forward, giving a more upright position and yes, you are right.... not comfortable at all while on the road bike it's really comfortable for a few hours.
