As I've done more and more commuting during the summer months I'm thinking of adding mudguards and panniers to my 2014 Boardman CX Team in an attempt to continue through the autumn/winter months.

However this means I "need" a new weekend, nice weather toy and was thinking about £1000 should get something that's a bit of an upgrade from my CX? Find myself always on the road these days, but do prefer the feel of disc brakes.

Any recommendations - seen the Boardman Pro Carbon in Halfords which is down to £1200 at the mo which looks fairly nice although I do like the SRAM shifters I currently have and this is Shimano. My local branch also has an old Raleigh Revenio 4 disc which has been reduced, but don't feel this would be much of an upgrade to my current CX?

Far too much to choose from!

I never use mudguards and commute all year round. Never seen the pint in them really as I am going to have a shower either end of my commute anyways. Sorry

I've just upgraded from a Boardman Road Comp to the new Road Pro Carbon and love it. It is a great bike and I'd recommend it to anyone..

Don't forget that Halfords give 10% discount to British Cycling members, so if you're not already a member join up and get another £119.92 off the already reduced price (BC membership costs £21 at the basic level, or £35 including third party liability insurance and other worthwhile benefits).

Is a very nice looking but of kit that mirror silver and green go well. Saw one in my local the other week thought the hoods (brifters whatever) looked huge assuming it's the hydro stuff for the brakes. All round nice bit of kit though.

I keep looking, but it looks like the Boardman could be the best value for money - especially with the extra 10% off?

Would it make a good basis for upgrading should the urge come around to spend money again in a few months or so - the geek in me fancies Di2 ;-)

I'd say so, it's what i'll be doing as components wear out on mine (although probably not Di2!)
