I've been thinking about getting some new road wheels for the last year and I've narrowed it down to 2 pairs.

Easton EA70

or

Mavic Cosmic Elite (2011)

Both wheelsets are about £300.

I'm not keen on Fulcrums, and I currently run Shimano factory wheels; and I don't like them!

I have considered handbuilts, but we can save that debate for another thread.

My advice would be to keep the existing front wheel - as unless you go down the deep aero route it wont make much difference over what you have - and spend the £300 on a rear wheel.

Just google Mavic rear wheels and you should get something to your liking

but my front shimano RS wheel flexes like crazy - it practically bounces off the brake blocks when I'm out of the saddle!

What shimano wheels are you running? I have a Shimano RS10 wheels and I have no such issues. Not to say you shouldnt upgrade them, just curious.

yes the same RS10s - if I really give it some on climbs the back wheel starts touching the brake blocks and making other funny noises too (if you do this in the wet it's much easier to hear the blocks rubbing under high loads). I'm a big chap at 6'2" and 'well built'

I like mavic ksyrium elites, got them on my winter/training bike. They have never put a foot wrong and seem pretty much bomb proof.

You will get a 2010 pair for around the same as the cosmics if you shop around on internet.

the ksyrium range differs from the cosmics by being more lightweight and not having such a deep section rim - right? I got the feeling that the cosmics are a bit stronger (and more aero) but at the expense of a little extra weight. I don't mind a little extra weight if the wheel is stronger as a result

I do a few TTs so thought the Cosmics would be a good idea.

I'm too big for mega lightweight wheels - and I intend to use them for training and racing(TTs) and everything else for that matter - they need to be good allrounders

my budget can't be stretched any further either - well perhaps £20 more!

I know you said you werent keen on fulcrums but planetx are doing fulcrum 3's for £275. These are really strong and well worth considering at that price.

It appaeras that nobody has an opinion on the Eastons EA70s.

The RRP is £370 and I've just seen them for £220 - very tempting!
