Hello all!

Newbie hear, looking forward to getting ivolved in plenty of threads over the next few weeks at least!

Slightly apprehensive of writing this. I have read the sticky on 'which bike' etc, but think I need to be more thorough.

Anyways, currently have a mtb (with broken (locked) suspension / skinnyish tyres), on which last year did LOADS of road miles, in training for C2C. This year we're doing a similar thing, but more training will be needed, and its making sense for me to get myself a road bike...

but, has to fit the following criteria..

1. Ideally reasonably comfortable for long trecks (will be getting a decent saddle too).
2. Must be suitable for climbs (im guessing plenty of gears will be a good thingl?)
3. Ideally fairly lightweight, for speed training as well.

So guys, whats out there in the region of £500 - £600 new price. I'll be tempted to go 2nd hand if it means getting a much better bike for my money. New would be nice though...

Also feel free to suggest any specific add-ons. So far im thinking, decent saddle, shorts, and maybe "tri-bars"?

Any help will be very kind

cheers madone! Never really fancied a Trek (which is a shame as my local Trek dealer is a 1 minute walk away). I don't know, the whole Bontrager thing puts me off for some reason.

I'll check out the Orbeas ;)

Depending how many hours you spend in the saddle ShinSplint (oh, and welcome BTW)...you'd maybe better off with a tourer or audax bike than an outright roadbike.
You'll still get drops, skinny'ish tyres for speed, better gearing for those hills, better geometry for comfort, the ability to mount mudguards and panniers etc etc.
F'rinstance, my Bianchi roadbike is comfortable...but only for 3 to 4 hours, then it starts to get uncomfortable. I wouldnt want to spend a good day on it.

Cheers,

Well, most of my sessions will be under 3-4 hours, so I think i'll prob get away with a road bike - however, already looking well above my budget ! The Orbea Onix Vuelta looks gorgeous ;) ... but its a grand
